~ A Note ~

by the artist/alchemist of Symphony Clay, Monette McKay

Clay heals me. It’s that simple. In the past, my darkest times have been overwhelmingly compounded. It was through the healing powers of clay and the process of ceramics, I found peace of mind and harmony of spirit.  My creativity flows when I get my hands in some clay. My imagination buzzes as I try new ideas and styles. After hours of playing in the mud, my daydreams continue while I rest. Through clay, I give myself permission to tell my story, take up space, and share my artistry.

I want each piece to feel like it is coming from my hands to yours, like a story we share.

Clay has magic rooted in ancient ways. Making something out of nothing, lemonade from lemons- alchemy! It is absolutely exhilarating and resonates so deeply with me. Aren’t we all alchemists ?

The life lessons in clay are iconic. Clay encourages us to slow down, trust the process, have faith in what is un-manifested, and be very (VERY!) allowing of imperfections and broken pieces. …That part.

Symphony Clay is a safe space for creativity, community, and culture.

May we all find peace, ease, and harmony in our lives. And remember to leave room for magic! la!

The name:

Symphony: a harmonious combination of elements.

My favorite thing about ceramics is that it uses all of the natural elements during the process. From earth (the clay itself), water (during throwing, attaching, or even making slip), air (to dry the pieces at different stages), and fire (to strengthen and solidify). All these elements combine together harmoniously to create something magical. And I believe, we, the alchemists, add the ether, heart, and/or spirit.

Additionally, with my musical background, I may or may not sing while I clay. Allegedly.
